Berne, Switzerland, May 10, 2018: Elusive Sound is very proud to announce the repressing of BLAK’s sold out debut album “Between Darkness And Light” on vinyl. The new edition is named Mimesi.
Pre-Orders start Friday, May 11 at 8 PM / 20:00 CEST (Zurich). The release will be on June 1, 2018.
Mixed and mastered by Randy Cordner at Beast Mansion, “Between Darkness And Light” reveals BLAK as a band blessed with an extraordinary ability to create powerfully evocative and stunningly beautiful classical-influenced compositions with haunting atmospherics and an expansive, cinematic sound.
“Black Drips in the Sky – Overwhelming” exists between the black and white, in the seams that pull together beauty and fury. It is astoundingly dramatic and thoroughly captivating. The ability to carefully and patiently craft soundscapes that are sonically intoxicating while inspiring the imagination to envision scenes unfolding behind closed eyelids belies their relative neophyte status in the genre. It is in possession of both ethereal passion and heart-stopping wrath, both of which finally intertwine during the richly dynamic, dramatic final crescendo. I have no doubt that “Between Darkness and Light” will be one of 2017’s most rewarding discoveries for post-rock fans, and will ultimately be tantamount to the year’s best releases. – David Zeidler, Arctic Drones
“Between Darkness and Light is such a dramatic and captivating album. There are so many images and emotions contained in so these five songs, such intensity tightly packed into them. Mature songwriting, carefully pieced together with so much love. Their passion and dedication are invaluable. I still find it hard to believe this is a debut album. This is music with a purpose and the purpose is to offer a very rewarding listen. Undoubtedly it will figure among the best newcomers of the year and at the top of the best album lists.” – Mark Martins, Echoes & Dust
“Il est à découvrir de toute urgence. Sans aucun doute mon coup de coeur de l’été. Il y a une magnifique beauté dans ces passages de l’obscurité à la lumière. De la tristesse à l’espoir, au-delà du voile sombre de la mélancolie. Il est un premier opus sublime, qui a déjà tout d’un grand. A savourer absolument”. – Totoromoon
You are in a forest gazing up at the thick whistling and chirping canopy, watching as the sun appears from behind the clouds. You slow your breathing down. You pay attention to the air passing in and out of your lungs and you close your eyes. Everything goes black yet everything comes alive. Your senses are heightened. You listen acutely to every sound close, far, loud and quiet. You smell deeply and differentiate between all the subtle odours. You feel intoxicated by the oxygen-heavy exhalations of the trees as the whispering wind scatters spice-scented decaying leaves like confetti on the path in front of you. You feel the sun’s rays beaming down on you. Your mind feels calm and transparent as the sun’s light enters right through you. There is an explosion of colour and light behind your closed eyes. You are illuminated.
Sometimes you need to hold on to one sense to really start feeling with the others. Attention amplifies sensation. The situation does not change yet how we perceive and experience it does. You need to rise above the noise to take in a view and notice the smallest of details. You need to attentively listen to music or soft spoken words to allow them to reach an emotional level, sparkle the heart and drive your imagination. Only then do they rekindle possibilities. Only then do they fuel your dreams.
In aesthetics, Mimesis (catalan. Mimesi) means the expression (copy, imitation, shape) of nature, an idea that impressionist painters took as a basis to abandon the idealization of the nature proposed by the Renaissance. Therefore, it seems logical that clarobscur lead to mimesi. The vinyl with orange colours is a soleil levant like Monet’s and from there everything starts to make sense. The repress of Between Darkness and Light is Mimesi. It is the same, without being the same.
This “Between Darkness and Light” vinyl repress upholds our quality standards, with 180-200g heavy vinyl, heavy paper stock with 350gsm gatefold outer sleeve on reverse-board and cut at 33-rpm from 24bit masters on one stunning vinyl variant. The Mimesi Edition is limited to 220 copies on special A-Side – B-Side vinyl with Splatter and features flood black printing on the inside of the gatefold-sleeve, a black anti-static innersleeve, a 20×20 cm sized heavyweight artprint with metallic-rainbow lasered credits on 400gsm FSC mix paper and an A7 printed inlay with handwritten download code.
